Stay in an Authentic private Country House | Sligo

Half a mile of avenue wanders through parkland, its green grass maintained in perfect order with the assistance of sixteen hundred sheep and their lambs. Fine old trees provide the flock with a measure of shade on hot days and, in all directions, there is a screen formed by the natural woods that cover more than half the area of this impressive estate.

Temple House, a luxury Guest House inn Sligo, is a classical Georgian manor set in a private estate of over 1,000 acres, overlooking a 13th century lakeside castle of the Knights Templar. The Perceval family home since 1665, the present manor was redesigned in 1864 and enjoys the authentic and unpretentious country house atmosphere.

COUNTRY HOUSE OF THE YEAR 2016 - Georgina Campbell Awards

You can’t beat a real country house for a refreshing short break or to provide an atmospheric setting for special occasions - and this extraordinary house is a destination like no other.

Taking on an established business that was started by parents, or even grandparents, is a challenge that many young owners have to face, and it’s not always easy putting your own stamp on a business that’s been going for   decades. So imagine what it must be like if the property in question goes back to the Knights Templar (that’s the 12th century to you and me), the house that is also your business is the largest family home in Ireland - and Queen Victoria was on the throne last time it has a major revamp (and some of those furnishings are still in place). But that mind boggling situation is just the way things are at Temple House in County Sligo, which is a very unusual and  charming place to stay whether for the huge range of outdoor activities (everything from Eagles Flying to kayaking or winter shooting parties), places to visit (including Lissadell) or simply cosying up to a big log fire with a book. And what’s really impressive is how the second generation to run it as a B&B (!), Roderick and Helena Perceval, have come to terms with it and now have the confidence to enjoy developing it (a lovely wedding venue has     recently emerged from a clatter of half-used rooms) and have fun sharing it with guests. It’s a huge achievement - and the food is great too!
