Sligo Abbey
Dominican Friary founded in 1252/3 by Maurice Fitzgerald, the Chief
Justice of Ireland. It has the oldest decorated high altar in an
Irish monastic church, dating to the 15th century, and the beautifully
carved O'Crean tomb dating to 1506 is an example of a medieval grave
monument.

Parkes Castle
Situated on the shores of Lough Gill, this restored plantation castle,
built in the early 17th century, is considered one of the finest
examples of its kind. Facilities include tours, exhibitions and
tea room.
Ceide Fields
Beneath the wild boglands of North Mayo lies Ceide Fields, the most
extensive stone age monument in the world; field systems, dwelling
areas and megalithic tombs of 5,000 years ago. In addition, the
wild flora of the bog is of international importance and is bounded
by some of the most spectacular rock formations and cliffs in Ireland.

Built in 1830 to the design of Francis Goodwin, the Grecian revival
interiors contain a treasure trove of the Gore-Booth family memorabilia.

Genealogy
The North West Tourism and Cultural Centre is located in Temple
Street, Sligo. It houses the Tourist Office, Sligo Heritage and

Foxford Woollen Mills Visitor Centre
At the core of the centre is The Historical Woollen Mill Tour where you can step back in time to see how life was in Foxford in the 1890's. You will meet Mother Agnes Morrogh Bernard, the Irish Sister of Charity who founded the Woollen Mills in 1892. See how the town of Foxford grew and prospered around the Mill. The tour also includes a visit to the working woollen mill where skilled craftspeople can be seen producing the world famous rugs, blankets and tweeds. The Historical Woollen Mill Tour is available in German, French, Italian, Irish as well as English.
